The children at St. Peter Lutheran Church enjoyed a special craft project last Sunday. At first, the children were confused as their teacher held up two wooden dowl rods in the shape of a cross. The teacher held the cross as high as she could and asked the kids, “How can we lift this cross higher?” Some children answered, “climb on the chair”. Others suggested, “Climb on a ladder”. One of the older students had the correct suggested, “Making the wood cross into a kite”. This is exactly what the craft project was that day. Every student in attendance was given cross made of dowl rods along with a colorful plastic covering . The covering had a symbolic “Cross” drawn on the front. The Cross reminds us of our Blessed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The children joyfully made their kites and were extremely happy to parade them around for the entrire congregation to see. The congreagtion, along with the children, sang joyfully the tune, “Lift High the Cross” which concluded the worship service. As everyone dispersed church on Sunday, all of the children were anxiously awaiting a trip to the park to attempt to put their kites in the air. The goal for the kite is to remind everyone that Christ came for everyone, He is everyone's personal Savior. If you were in the neighborhood of St. Peter Lutheran Church (125-B East Main Street) you will now understand why there was so much excitement inside. And now, if you happen to go to a park, and see a colorful kite with the Cross of Jesus Christ drawn on the covering, you will know how happy these kids were to be at Sunday School April 26, 2009.
